Meanwhile, Brad doesn't know what to do after giving Ashley a locket he found, not telling her that it was lost by one of Jill's friends. A neighbor puts up decorations a day before Tim does it, and it is because Randy is sharing Tim's secrets with that neighbor's granddaughter. Jill has ignored the car's oil warning light for two days, and the car becomes inoperative. Tim then gives a speech on Tool Time about respect for the machines. He tells the audience about the oil light incident that happened to "a friend". Tim gets support from two audience members with similar experiences.
Randy gets a chance to do a ventriloquist act, but his lips keep moving while he's practicing. Tim wants Jill to throw out some of her clothes or he will remodel the closet. Brad has punched a boy in school who called him names after hugging his Dad. Binford Tools has a prototype for a new power saw and wants Tim to promote it on Tool Time later that week. Tim tests it out at home and finds it is inferior and not worthy of the Binford name.

Tim reveals to Al that he is going to put the 350 Chevy engine in his hot rod. Tim thought Al would be spending the weekend with Greta (last seen in season 1 episode 21, "Al's Fair in Love and War"). Karen has broken up with Greg and is visiting Jill.

In early seasons, Wilson was always seen standing on the other side of Tim's backyard fence as the two engaged in conversation, usually with Wilson offering sage advice as Tim grappled with his problems. After an acquaintance of hers gets cosmetic surgery to please her husband, Jill gets mad at Tim for suggesting that she could benefit from some improvements. As mentioned above, the first pilot was produced in April 1991, with Frances Fisher playing Jill Taylor. Fisher, primarily known as a dramatic actress, was well qualified for the co-starring role but was viewed by the studio audience as not being comedic enough, and too serious in her line delivery. The producers tried to work with Fisher on adapting to the situation comedy setting, but shortly after the pilot wrapped post-production, they decided to recast her.
Tim runs into his high school girlfriend, Stacey Lewis. When she meets Jill, Jill is upset when she finds out Tim never told Stacey that they were through. The ups and downs of everyday life with television show host Tim "The Tool Man" Taylor with his co-host, his three sons, loving wife and neighbor. Tim agrees to build a house for Habitat for Humanity on his show, with famous athletes helping out, but Al and Jill challenge him by agreeing to lead a separate team to see who can build a house faster.
Seasons 5 and 6 accidentally contain some slightly edited episodes, most likely due to using syndication prints. And the episode "The Feminine Mistake" from season 6, doesn't contain the 3D version of the episode as originally aired on ABC, instead using the 2D version as seen in syndication. Episodes of Home Improvement were not aired in order of their production code number or original airdate. On cable, the series started airing in 2002 on superstations TBS and WGN America. It later ran on Nick at Nite and its sister network TV Land, and eventually the Hallmark Channel in 2013.
